Chinese new year

The Chinese New Year is known for the largest and most beautiful fireworks in the world. The fireworks in Beijing in particular contribute to this reputation. Even though the timing of the Chinese New Year varies, it usually takes place in February and lasts 15 days. Apart from the fireworks, visitors do not experience much of the festivities because the Chinese New Year is largely celebrated with the family. However, it is worth visiting a temple festival, especially the festival in the Temple of the Earth Park in Beijing is recommended.

Beijing International Dragon Boat Festival

The colorful opening ceremony with kite dances, music and a kite flying show is a wonderful way to get in the mood for this event, which attracts teams from all over the world every year to fly kites. The hang gliding tradition in China is over 100 years old. At the shows there are models from the early days of tradition and a lot of new models to see.

This theater and dance festival shows the best of contemporary, regional

Beijing International Marathon

The Beijing Marathon takes place at a perfect time of year when the weather is pleasant. The annual event attracts over 30,000 runners from around the world. The marathon took place for the first time in 1981 and has been a popular event ever since. The race is recognized by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), which is why marathon participants receive official IAAF points.
